The Seeds of Life

An Interview with Trinlay Tulku Rinpoche

Rebirth is a belief common to all Buddhist traditions, although in Tibetan Buddhism, a belief in reincarnation—the reappearance of a great master, known as a tulku— developed in the late 13th century C.E. The tradition continues amid much discussion of its contemporary relevance. Here, Trinlay Tulku Rinpoche, a Western-born tulku, discusses with Pamela Gayle White the traditional Tibetan view of reincarnation and answers some of the more common questions skeptical Westerners ask.

Lucid Dying with the Tibetan Book of the Dead: Bob Thurman Podcast

Years ago my original teacher, the Venerable Geshe Ngawang Wangyal of the Labsum Shedrub Monastery, gave me a copy of a Tibetan volume printed in India, entitled The Tibetan Book of the Dead. GYOBUTSUJI AND THE ENVIRONMENT: PRACTICING WITH ALL BEINGS
BY SHORYU BRADLEY

A few years ago a person who had visited Gyobutsuji’s website asked me how I got the idea to establish a “green” monastery. The questions surprised me a bit because I had not previously considered being “green” a particularly notable feature of Gyobutsuji, although allowing the monastery to be as environmentally conscientious as possible has indeed been one of my primary aspirations. But it had not really occurred to me that a contemporary Zen monastery would be anything other than sensitive to its impact on our delicate Earth.
